A workshop discussing a national plan on protecting marine turtles through 2025 was held in the central province of Ninh Thuan on July 3.
Since 2003, the animal’s number and laying places have shrunk due to human activities. Currently, only three sea turtle species make nests and lay eggs along coasts nationwide.
Over the last ten years, an action preservation plan has been implemented under the coordination among the Government, the authorities of coastal provinces, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
During the workshop, scientists and managers exchanged expertise, pointed to conservation difficulties and proposed relevant solutions. Their comments will contribute to the completion of the national preservation plan.
Pham Trong Yen from the Fisheries Directorate under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, his agency will continue focusing on communication campaigns moving forward.
The workshop was co-organised by the Fisheries Directorate, the Ninh Thuan People’s Committee, and the IUCN.-VNA
