Lao Cai (VNA) - Farming, forestry and seafood products, handicraft items, machines and equipment, among others are being showcased at 750 booths during the 15th Vietnam-China International Trade Fair, which opened in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on November 13.

Apart from the businesses from Vietnam and China, the six-day event saw the participation of firms from Ghana, the Republic of Korea and Thailand.

The fair offers an opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to enhance trade ties while exchanging information and seeking partnerships.

Investment projects and tours linking Kunm ing (China) and Lao Cai, Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh (Vietnam) are scheduled to be promoted during the event.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu underscored the crucial roles of the annual trade fair for both Vietnam and China.

China has been a leading trade partner of Vietnam since 2004, he said, adding that two-way trade reached 41.8 billion USD in the first half of 2015, rising 16.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

Lao Cai province has key position in regional economic development as it shares a 182-kilometre border with southwest China while the Hanoi-Lao Cai newly-opened highway has facilitated further trade expansion between the locality and other provinces across the country.-VNA
