Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese leaders offered congratulations to their Lao counterparts on the country’s 40th National Day (December 2, 1975).

The congratulations were sent on November 30 by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone, PM Thongsing Thammavong and National Assembly President Pany Yathotou.

In their messages, the Vietnamese leaders expressed their delight at the Lao people’s enormous achievements in national development and protection under the leadership of the LPRP over the past four decades – particularly during the last 30 years of reforms.

Vietnam has continually regarded Laos’s attainments as its own and firmly believes that the Lao people will accomplish even greater things, ultimately building their country into a peaceful, independent, democratic, united and affluent nation, they added.

The leaders said they hope Laos will successfully carry out its socio-economic development plan for 2011-2015 and organise the LPRP’s 10th National Congress in early 2016.

Also on November 30, Politburo Member and Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the Vietnam – Laos Cooperation Sub-committee, sent a congratulatory message to Lao Politburo Member and Deputy PM Somsavat Lengsavad, Head of the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Sub-committee.

Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh extended congratulations to his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan delivered a similar message to the Head of the LPRP’s external relations commission, Soonthorn Xayachak.-VNA
