Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held phone talks with Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on May 8 to discuss cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Minh conveyed the greetings of Vietnamese Party, State, and Government leaders to their Cuban counterparts and affirmed that Vietnam always stands side-by-side with Cuba.

The Cuban FM emphasised the importance Cuba attaches to the special, time-honoured relationship with Vietnam and highly valued Vietnam’s efforts in fighting the pandemic and maintaining economic growth.

The two sides spoke highly of solidarity and support between the two countries in fighting the disease and exchanged experience in this regard as well as orientations and policies on economic recovery and social welfare post-COVID-19.

They also expressed their resolve to tighten the bilateral relationship and effectively and comprehensively implement the agenda on bilateral cooperation in 2020 and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

They agreed to further collaboration, coordination, and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially during the period when Vietnam serves as ASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021./.
