Havana (VNA) – The armies of Vietnam and Cuba discussed and agreed on directions for cooperation in economics and trade in the time ahead during a visit of Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Tran Don to Cuba from September 21 – 27.

Don held talks with Cuban Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) Sen. Lieut. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias and First Vice Minister of MINFAR Sen. Lieut. Gen. Alvaro Lopez Miera in Havana.

The Cuban officials said they expect the visit will concrete the long-standing relations between the two countries’ armies and help translate the bilateral military cooperation as well as the partnership between military enterprises from both sides into practical results.

Don, for his part, expressed his pleasure to return to Cuba this time, particularly when the two nations are celebrating the 45th year of Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s visit to the South Vietnam Liberation Zone in Quang Tri (September 1973 – 2018).

During their talks, the two sides reviewed the implementation of their cooperation plan from 2017 – 2019 and discussed plans for cooperation in economics and trade between their military firms with focus on telecommunications, textile-garment, footwear, mechanics, shipbuilding, maritime transport, logistics, construction and healthcare.

While staying in Cuba, Don and his entourage laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument at the Hoa Binh Park in downtown Havana and paid tribute to President Tran Dai Quang at the Embassy of Vietnam in Cuba.

They also met with leaders of Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and Chamber of Commerce to learn about investment policies in the Latin American country and visited several MINFAR bodies.

In addition, the two sides co-organised a trade and investment promotion conference for both military and non-military companies from Vietnam and Cuba to help them increase mutual understanding, establish relationship and seek partnership. –VNA
