Havana (VNA) – The armies of Vietnam andCuba discussed and agreed on directions for cooperation in economics and tradein the time ahead during a visit of Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen.Tran Don to Cuba from September 21 – 27.

Don held talks with Cuban Minister of the RevolutionaryArmed Forces (MINFAR) Sen. Lieut. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias and First ViceMinister of MINFAR Sen. Lieut. Gen. Alvaro Lopez Miera in Havana.

The Cuban officials said they expect the visit will concretethe long-standing relations between the two countries’ armies and helptranslate the bilateral military cooperation as well as the partnership betweenmilitary enterprises from both sides into practical results.

Don, for his part, expressed his pleasure to return toCuba this time, particularly when the two nations are celebrating the 45th yearof Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s visit to the South Vietnam Liberation Zone inQuang Tri (September 1973 – 2018).

During their talks, the two sides reviewed theimplementation of their cooperation plan from 2017 – 2019 and discussed plansfor cooperation in economics and trade between their military firms with focuson telecommunications, textile-garment, footwear, mechanics, shipbuilding,maritime transport, logistics, construction and healthcare.

While staying in Cuba, Don and his entourage laid awreath at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument at the Hoa Binh Park in downtownHavana and paid tribute to President Tran Dai Quang at the Embassy of Vietnamin Cuba.

They also met with leaders of Cuba’s Ministry of ForeignTrade and Investment and Chamber of Commerce to learn about investment policiesin the Latin American country and visited several MINFAR bodies.

In addition, the two sides co-organised a trade andinvestment promotion conference for both military and non-military companiesfrom Vietnam and Cuba to help them increase mutual understanding, establishrelationship and seek partnership. –VNA

Japan stands as Vietnam’s largest bilateral supplier of official development assistance (ODA), the top partner in labour cooperation, the third largest foreign investor, and the fourth largest partner in trade and tourism. Bilateral trade reached 47.6 billion USD in 2022, 44.98 billion USD in 2023, and 46.2 billion USD in 2024, and 12 billion USD in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
