Vietnam expands export markets for farm produce

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is coordinating with other ministries, agencies and associations to organise a range of trade promotion activities, aiming to expand export markets for agricultural products, especially key staples.

Hanoi (VNA)
–The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is coordinating with otherministries, agencies and associations to organise a range of trade promotionactivities, aiming to expand export markets for agricultural products,especially key staples.

The MoIT’s VietnamTrade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and the Vietnam Food Association willorganise a trip to the US and Mexico for 21 Vietnamese businesses operating inthe rice sector in late July.

The event is to realizethe Prime Minister’s instructions on expanding American markets and is expectedto help local rice exporters access major markets and ease their reliance on traditionalones.

The participatingenterprises must have export capacity, prestige and good infrastructure inservice of rice production and business. Priorities will be given to those thatwant to seek new partners in North America.

Besides, many tradepromotion programmes have been launched in the Philippines, Singapore, theIvory Coast, Hong Kong and South Africa to boost Vietnamese rice exports tothese markets.

Vietrade and theVietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) will participate in theAsia Fruit Logistica Hong Kong 2019 slated for September with the aim ofhelping Vietnamese agricultural processors conquer the Asian and ASEAN markets.

Bui Thi Hanh Hieu, GeneralDirector of Bao Minh Business Agricultural Products Processing JSC which hasjoined many trade promotion activities launched by the MoIT, said Vietrade hasassisted local firms in participating in exhibitions and fairs and meeting bigorders.

The agency’srepresentative office in China has also helped Bao Minh connect traders in themarket, she said.

Vietnamese agriculturalproducts have been shipped to 200 countries and territories worldwide, with rice,coffee, pepper and cashew nuts as its key staples.

Each year, the MoIT spendsabout 33-35 billion VND (1.4-1.5 million USD) on trade promotion programmes topromote Vietnamese farm produce abroad.

Experts suggested that amidst the fierce competition, the agriculture sectorshould pay more attention to product quality and competiveness to gain a firmfoothold in the global market.-VNA

Lao Cai steps up anti-smuggling crackdown, handles more than 1,220 cases

Among the cases were 367 involving the illegal trade and transport of prohibited or smuggled goods, 692 related to commercial and tax fraud, and 162 concerning counterfeit products, imitation goods and intellectual property infringements. Criminal proceedings were launched in 231 cases, with 406 suspects facing criminal proceedings, while 957 cases were settled through administrative penalties.

High-quality FDI expected to drive new growth model

The resolution calls for a shift in development mindset, positioning FDI as a key driver of growth model transformation, with a focus on quality, value addition and continuous improvement of intrinsic capacity and self-reliance of the economy. Many experts and businesses believe the policy provides a timely strategic boost, helping Vietnam to capitalise on the ongoing global supply chain realignment.

Vietnam, Brazil seek ways to promote trade, investment cooperation

Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi informed that two-way trade reached 4.22 billion USD in the first six months of 2026, up 16.8% year-on-year. Brazil's exports to Vietnam exceeded 2 billion USD, rising 16.6%, while its imports from Vietnam totalled about 2.11 billion USD, an increase of 17%.
