Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has shipped more than 68,000 tonnes of riceabroad as of April 21 evening, part of 400,000 tonnes of rice under quotas forthis month, the General Department of Customs reported on its website.
Earlierthis month, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the Ministry of Industry and Trade's proposal to resume rice exports after a few weeks ofsuspension to make sure the country has sufficient food to cope with the COVID-19pandemic.
Accordingto the department, from April 11-12, local businesses have registered toexport 399,999 tonnes of rice.
Thedepartment said it has been updating information about the volume ofrice exports on its official website at www.customs.gov.vn eachhour.
Inthe first quarter of this year, the country exported about 1.52 milliontonnes of rice for 700.8 million USD, up 9 percent in volume and 16 percent invalue year-on-year, the department's statistics revealed./.
