Hanoi (VNA) - Nguyen Phuong Khanh, Vietnam’s representative at Miss Earth 2018, has won a silver medal in the swimsuit competition.

Khanh had previously won a gold medal for Asia & Oceania region in the national costume round on October 11.

Miss Earth is being held in the Philippines with the participation of 94 contestants from around the world. In the bikini sub-contest, they competed in three groups called Fire, Air and Water.

Khanh was a member of  the Water Group, which consisted of 28 contestants. The gold and bronze medals went to Miss Mexico and Miss Bosni and Herzegovina.

Born in the southern province of Ben Tre, 23-year-old Khanh was the second runner-up at the Miss Sea Vietnam Global Beauty Pageant 2018 held on Phu Quoc Island in April.

Khanh is currently a student at the Curtin University Singapore, majoring in marketing, and will graduate early next year.

She is currently standing in second place overall behind Miss Portugal Telma Madeira.

This is the first time a Vietnamese representative has entered the top swimsuit round of Miss Earth, said Ngoc Tinh, a representative of the Leading Stars Project, the organisation introducing and accompanying Khanh at Miss Earth.

In these beauty pageants, the contestants’ advantages in the swimsuit and national costume competitions are important, offering them opportunities to enter the final rounds, Tinh added.

“We expected Khánh to achieve something at Miss Earth 2018. She has performed very well and made great efforts so far,” he said.

The contest will continue until November 3.-VNA
