Vietnam hailed as respected member of int’l community
Berlin (VNA) – President of the Germany – Vietnam Association and former
German Ambassador to Vietnam for 2007-2011 tenure Rolf Schulze high highly
valued Vietnam’s foreign policy, expressing his belief that ties between the
two countries will grow further.
In an
interview recently granted to Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporters in Berlin on
the occasion of the first National Conference on Foreign Affairs held in
Vietnam, Schulze stressed that Vietnam – with its commitment to multilateralism
and international cooperation based on law – is a respected member of the
international community.
He said
Vietnam has made important contributions to ensuring peace and stability in the
world. At the United Nations, Vietnam joined hands to deal with challenges
faced by the international community.
Meanwhile,
journalist Rui Wei, head of the
Vietnamese section at China Radio International, also lauded Vietnam’s
external relations, which he said, have created favourable conditions for socialism
building and national defence.
He
emphasised that over the past years, Vietnam has increasingly played its important
role on international arena, with active contributions to almost important international
organisations and forums, thus fulfilling a number of tasks. Vietnam is now an
active member of over 70 regional and global organisations and plays a
significant role in ASEAN and many UN agencies.
Rui said
the most important in Vietnam’s external affairs is maintaining the principle of
independence and self-reliance as taught by President Ho Chi Minh. Its external
relations are playing a great and active role in economic development and
creating an environment of peace and stability, thus making effective
contributions to firmly safeguarding sovereignty and building land borderlines of
peace, friendship and development with Laos, Cambodia and China.
Talking
with VNA reporters in Prague, Dr. Takashi Hosoda, an expert on Vietnam and Asia-Pacific
from Charles University, also affirmed that during its tenure as ASEAN Chair
2020, Vietnam made important contributions to raising the international community’s
awareness of the importance of maritime security issues as well as dealing with
regional and global issues via peaceful means, thus improving its prestige and
position on the international arena and consolidating national potential./.
