New Delhi (VNA) – “India-Vietnam relations through the prism of Gandhian and Ho Chi Minh philosophies” was the main topic of an international conference that took place in Tirupathi city, India’s Andhra Pradesh state on March 18-19.

The event was jointly held by the Centre for Southeast Asia and Pacific Studies under the Sri Venkateswara University, the Indian Council of Social Science Research, the Centre for Vietnam Studies and the Centre for India Studies (CIS) under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA).

Vice Chancellor of the Sri Venkateswara University Rajendra Prasad said the conference has contributed to consolidating and promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.

It has shed light on some issues in the bilateral ties, as well as relations between Vietnam and India, and their neighbouring countries in the context of regional and global uncertainties, he said.

Dr. Le Van Toan, CIS Director and Chairman of the HCMA’s Science Council, highlighted the role of Mahatma Gandhi and Ho Chi Minh in laying foundation for the Vietnam-India relationship, which has been fostered by generations of leaders and people of the two countries.

He also talked about outcomes of the relationship over the past nearly half a century, potential and prospects for stronger cooperation, as well as barriers to the ties.

At the end of the conference, the Centre for Southeast Asia and Pacific Studies presented Toan with the “Lifetime Achievement Award.” He is the first foreigner to receive the title by the centre.-VNA
