Hanoi (VNA) - An exchange between young officers of Vietnamese and Indian armies took place in Hanoi on March 4.
The event was part of activities to implement the agreement between the two countries’ armies on visit exchange of young officers, contributing to strengthening their friendship and deepening the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership.
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Viet Nang, head of the Army Youth Board under the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA)’s General Department of Politics, highlighted the traditional relations between the two nations.
The strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries, including defence cooperation, especially exchange activities of young officers during the past years, is significant for both armies.
For his part, Senior Lieutenant Mukesh Kurmar - head of the Indian delegation, gave an overview of young officer training system in his country and the basic features of the Indian Army.
The Vietnamese and Indian armies have many similarities, Kurmar said, expressing his respect for the VPA.
He hoped that the Indian delegation would learn how Vietnamese young officers are trained during their stay in the Southeast Asian nation.
Regarding future cooperation, Nang suggested the two sides more active in popularising the contents of the Joint Vision Statement on Vietnam-India Defence Cooperation for 2015-2020 and agreements signed between the two defence ministries.
The two sides agreed to boost exchanges and experience sharing, especially in UN peacekeeping activities.
In the framework of the visit from March 3-9, the Indian delegation will pay tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh in his Mausoleum, visit the Vietnam Military History Museum and historical and tourism sites.-VNA
