Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam always attaches importanceto developing relations with the Philippines, said Defence Minister Gen. NgoXuan Lich while receiving Philippine Undersecretary of National Defence Lieut.Gen. Cardozo M. Luna in Hanoi on August 9.

Lich welcomed the guest to visit Vietnam and take part in a Vietnam-Philippinesdefence policy dialogue, saying this is a very important mechanism which aimsto reach common perceptions on regional and international security issues aswell as agreed on measures to boost bilateral defence ties.

High-ranking leaders of the two countries decided to upgrade bilateral relationsto a strategic partnership in 2015, opening up a new development period for thetwo countries’ relationship in all fields, especially defence, with the exchangeof all-level delegations and cooperation in naval affairs, law enforcement atsea and personnel training, he said.

For his part, Cardozo M. Luna expressed his belief that the effective realisationof contents agreed by the two sides will contribute to further promoting the bilateralcollaboration in a pragmatic, intensive and effective manner.

In the time to come,  defence tiesbetween Vietnam and the Philippines will focus on improving the implementation ofan agreement on bilateral defence cooperation, deepening existing cooperation areasand boost ties in several new areas such as young officer exchange, cooperationin defence industry, logistics and military medicine, and sharing of experiencein joining UN peacekeeping operations.

Earlier, Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and Lieut.Gen. Cardozo M. Luna co-chaired the third Vietnam-Philippines Defence Policy Dialogueat deputy ministerial level.

The two sides informed each other about the outcome of the meeting of the jointworking group on Vietnam-Philippines defence cooperation and agreed to assesscooperation areas in the framework of the agreement on bilateral defencecooperation.

They consented to boost the exchange of delegations and high-level meetings onthe sidelines of multilateral events, maintaining personnel exchanges on the SongTu Tay (Southwest Cay) and Song Tu Dong (Northeast Cay) islands.

Vietnam and the Philippines will organise mutual visits by naval ships and rescuefishermen in distress at sea while promoting logistics and defence industry collaboration,professional exchange in the fields of flight safety and aviation medicine, andsharing of experience in joining UN peacekeeping missions.-VNA

Bru–Van Kieu community in Quang Tri gear up for early voting

According to the provincial Election Committee, three polling stations in Truong Son commune – located in Hoi Ray, Nuoc Dang and Doc May villages – will organise voting on March 8, seven days before the nationwide election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, to make it easier for residents in remote areas where travel remains difficult to cast their ballots.

PM proposes “Talented, creative and dedicated women” award

This year’s award went to a group of female scientists from Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their research cluster on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. Vietnam co-chairs 5th ASEAN–UK joint cooperation committee meeting
