Vietnam and Indonesia’s top legislators have expressed their pleasure at the increasingly enhanced relations between the two legislatures.
At their talks in Hanoi on September 5, the Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, Nguyen Sinh Hung, and the Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives, Marzuki Alie, agreed to speed up the implementation of a cooperation agreement between both legislative bodies.
They also agreed to work closer together at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums, particularly within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During their talks, Chairman Hung hailed the visit to Vietnam by Alie in his capacity as Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives and AIPA President.
He praised the role the Speaker has played in realising AIPA goals during his 2011-2012 term, as well as Indonesia ’s role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ recent activities.
After nearly six decades since both countries first established diplomatic ties, the visit by Speaker Marzuki Alie highlights the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries as they work towards a strategic partnership, said Hung.
After expressing his pleasure at the strong development in relations between both countries, especially in drawing up laws, enforcing laws and carrying out exchanges, the Speaker said that he believes bilateral ties will develop strongly in tourism, culture, politics, economics and diplomacy in the near future.
Speaker Alie said he hopes that both governments will continue to support and foster the signing of cooperative agreements to facilitate economic ties and help nurture Vietnamese-Indonesian relations.
In his role as President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, he added that the AIPA acknowledges and values Vietnam ’s presence in the AIPA Council.-VNA
