Vietnam, Iran vow support to achieve 2 billion USD trade

Vietnamese and Iranian leaders have committed all possible support to their businesses to navigate the respective markets towards a trade value of 2 billion USD, President Tran Dai Quang said.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese andIranian leaders have committed all possible support to their businesses tonavigate the respective markets towards a trade value of 2 billion USD,President Tran Dai Quang told Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industriesand Mines and Agriculture of Iran Gholam Hossein Shafei during a reception inHanoi on April 20.

The State leader said both sides haveagreed to boost bilateral economic, trade, investment cooperation across oiland gas, telecommunications, agriculture and fisheries, adding that Vietnam couldexport quality products to Iran at competitive prices, such as rice, tea,coffee, cashew nut, pepper, rubber, motorbike and bicycle spare parts.

The Vietnamese State encourages domesticfirms to invest in Iran, as well as makes it easier for Iranian citizens andbusinesspeople to survey market and boost trade, investment and tourism inVietnam.

The State also encourages Vietnamesebanks to sign cooperation agreements with Iranian counterparts to pave the wayfor smooth payment, he said.

The host emphasised that Iran willhave a chance to access an over-90-million-people market when investing inVietnam, adding that Vietnam stands ready to become a bridge linking Iran andASEAN market with a 600 million-plus population and tens of other markets withwhich Vietnam did and will sign free trade agreements.

Shafei, who is in Vietnam to attendthe Vietnam-Iran business forum held the same day, stressed that the Look Eastpolicy and development of ties with East Asian countries are Iran’s toppriority, in which Vietnam plays an important role in reinforcing ties betweenIran and regional countries.

According to him, two-way trade hasgrown 22 percent following high-level mutual visits in 2016.

As Vietnam is among the top 20countries that Iran attaches importance to developing economic-trade ties, thebilateral trade value will further grow, he said.

The guest affirmed that Iran is willingto serve as a gateway for Vietnam to extend ties with Central Asia, the MiddleEast and Europe.

Informing the host about the outcomesof the forum, Shafei said both sides vowed to establish the Vietnam-IranChamber of Commerce and Industry, with offices expected to be inaugurated inthe two nations next March.-VNA
