Havana (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a ceremony in Havana on August 29 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945-2024).

Attending the event were member of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Politburo, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba Álvaro López Miera, member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power Ana María Mari Machado, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández de Cossío, among others.

Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Long emphasised the historic significance of September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam's independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

He highlighted the tremendous achievements of the Vietnamese people over the past 79 years in building, defending, and developing the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. From a poor and backward nation, Vietnam has emerged as a dynamic economy, with an average GDP growth rate of about 6% per year over the past decade.

Vietnam has also become a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community. It has set up diplomatic relations with 193 nations around the world and proactively participated in global multilateral organisations and forums such as the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The diplomat also affirmed that the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have become a symbol of international solidarity and friendship. He called on Cuban, international friends, and the international community to strengthen cooperation to contribute to the development of the countries and the progress of the international community.

At the event, participants were given insight into Vietnam’s history, culture, and beauty through watching documentaries and enjoying its traditional dishes./.
