Bangkok (VNA) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand held a ceremony on August 29 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day (September 2).

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said for the last 79 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have resolutely defended national independence and strived to build Vietnam into a country of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, a beautiful, safe, friendly, and hospitable destination.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude for the valuable assistance from partners, friends, and international organisations which have helped Vietnam achieve its successes over the years.

The diplomat highlighted the fruitful development of the bilateral relations, saying that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976, the Vietnam – Thailand strategic partnership has increasingly developed in a strong and trustworthy manner, bringing benefits to the two countries’ people and making positive contributions to a shared future of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development within and beyond the region.

In early August, Vietnam welcomed Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh just held phone talks with his Thai counterpart Peatongtarn Shinawatra to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral relations in the coming time.

Thailand continues to be Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN and the ninth-biggest foreign investor among the over 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with a total investment of around 14 billion USD. Cooperation in culture, tourism, education, and training, and people-to-people exchanges have been steadily growing, fostering mutual understanding between the two countries’ people.

Ambassador Hung affirmed his commitment to closely cooperating with colleagues, partners, and friends in Thailand to safeguard the shared achievements of both sides, while expanding and deepening the friendship, trust, and mutual understanding between the two nations, thus strengthening mutually-beneficial cooperation, promoting the prosperity and well-being of their people, and contributing to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.

International friends congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic development achievements.
