Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam-Italy economic and trade relations have been developing strongly, Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien made the remarks in an interview prior to President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to Italy from November 21-24.

Statistics showed that in 2015, Vietnam-Italy trade value reached 4.3 billion USD, nearly double the figure in 2013 when the two countries formed their strategic partnership.

Vietnam has jumped from the fourth place to the first place in trading with Italy among ASEAN countries. Some Italian corporations like Piaggio, Ariston and Bonfiglioli have invested in Vietnam.

Regarding President Tran Dai Quang’s visit, Italian leaders stressed that the trip is an important landmark in the bilateral relationship and shows Italy’s commitments to join hands with Vietnam in strengthening ties between the two countries.

Italy treasures President Quang’s decision to choose Italy as the first country in Europe to visit since he took the office.

The delegation accompanying President Quang to Italy will include many leaders of ministries and sectors who will discuss with Italian counterparts measures to boost cooperation in a wide range of fields from politics, foreign affairs, to transport and local cooperation.

The two sides plan to sign important cooperation documents like an action plan to implement the strategic partnership, a cooperation programme on science and technology, a cooperation agreement on transport.

Besides that, the presence of 40 Vietnamese enterprises accompanying President Tran Dai Quang and the Vietnam-Italy Economic Forum with the participation of nearly 100 Italian enterprises is a practical cooperation form, helping to realise their cooperation agreements.

This is also a chance for Vietnamese enterprises to introduce to Italian business community trade potentials and projects and learn from the field Italy has advantages like high-technology, green technology, renewable energy.-VNA
