Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army General Do Ba Ty held talks with Chief of Joint Staff of Japan’s Self Defence Forces General Shigeru Iwasaki in Hanoi on May 29.
The talks took place after an official welcoming ceremony given to General Shigeru Iwasaki and his entourage on the same day.
At the talks, both sides briefed each other on their countries’ socio-economic developments and reviewed the two armies’ cooperation in recent years.
They discussed measures to promote national defence relations, including exchanging visits by high-level delegations, hosting dialogues on national defence policies, training personnel and providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
They also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, for the sake of peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
The same day, General Iwasaki paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and laid floral tributes at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Monument of Fallen Combatants, and visited Vietnam Military History Museum.-VNA
