Can Tho (VNA) - The second Vietnam-Japan culture and trade exchange programme opened on November 11 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to promote Japanese investment in the city and other provinces in the Mekong Delta.

The event, which lasts until November 13, was jointly held by the Can Tho chapter of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Can Tho People’s Committee.

Vo Hung Dung, Director of the VCCI in Can Tho said the programme features 70 booths at Luu Huu Phuoc Park displaying Vietnamese and Japanese cultural items, such as dolls, masks and lanterns, as well as performances of traditional arts.

The programme also includes a business conference attended by more than 100 enterprises, of which 30 come from Japan and operate in the fields of agriculture, IT, restaurants, retail, healthcare and telecommunications.

The conference is expected to be an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to seek business partners on the Japanese market.

Can Tho Vice Chairman Truong Quang Hoai Nam said the exchange programme does not only strengthen the friendship between the two countries but also opens a new period of trade and investment cooperation between Can Tho and Japanese partners.

He added that the event also offers a chance for Vietnam to introduce its culture to Japan and vice versa.

Satoshi Nakajima, Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said the programme will help Japanese companies learn about the business environment in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region as well as strengthening the friendship and economic cooperation between the two countries.-VNA
