Vietnam joins Laos, China in fight against wildlife trafficking

Hanoi (VNA) – Officials from border provinces of Vietnam , Laos and China have recently concluded a transnational working visit to learn about the wildlife trafficking situation in the region, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)’s office in Vietnam .

The nine-day visit was aimed at updating the wildlife trafficking situation along the Indo-Burma hotspot, including parts of Cambodia , Laos , Myanmar , Thailand , Vietnam and southern China .

The delegation also conducted a survey on the cross-border wildlife trade in several medicine markets in Guangzhou city, China as well as in border gates between Vietnam , Laos and China .

Statistics from the Ministry of Public Security estimated that about 4,000-4,500 tonnes of wildlife products are illegally trafficked into Vietnam each year.-VNA
