Vietnam joins Marrakesh Treaty to protect interests of visually impaired people

A document on Vietnam’s participation in the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled has been handed over to Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Daren Tang for legal copyrighting.

Geneva (VNA) – A document on Vietnam’s participationin the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons WhoAre Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled has been handed overto Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)Daren Tang for legal copyrighting.

Addressing the presentation, Ambassador Le Thi TuyetMai, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, WTO, andother international organisations in Geneva, said the country’s participationin the Marrakesh Treaty marks an important milestone in reasonably balancingthe protection of copyrights and interests of persons who are blind, visually impaired,or otherwise print disabled.

The participation also aims to implement theVietnamese State’s policy on supporting and creating conditions for thedisabled in the country to practice the rights to equality and community integrationin the best possible manner, she noted.

Congratulating Vietnam, WIPODirector General Daren Tang affirmed that WIPO will assist the libraries forthose people toconnect with the organisation’s ABC Global Book Service so as to contribute toand share digital books, supplement the collection, and supply the books forthem in Vietnam.

Following the presentation, Mai had a meeting with WIPO DirectorGeneral Daren Tang and Deputy Directors General Sylvie Forbin and Hasan Kleib,expressing thanks to the WIPO leaders for helping Vietnam carry out cooperationactivities.

She asked WIPO to continue implementing joint activitiesbetween the two sides, including the enforcement of the Marrakesh Treaty thatVietnam has joined.

Tang recognised Vietnam’s achievements in sustaining a high rankingin the Global Innovation Index. He pledged to enhance cooperation between WIPOand ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, to successfully carry out cooperationaspects, including the enforcement of the Marrakesh Treaty.

The Marrakesh Treaty, adopted by WIPO on June 27, 2013, isthe latest supplements to the WIPO-managed international treaties oncopyrights./.

Can Tho: 120 sets of martyrs’ remains reburied

The remains were recovered in Dong Phuoc and Thoi Lai communes by a temporary search and recovery team under the Can Tho Military Command and Team K90 of the Political Department of Military Region 9.

Memorial service held for 731 fallen soldiers in Ho Chi Minh City

From June 23 to October 5, Team K74 and other forces recovered 731 sets of martyrs’ remains from the park. Biological samples and DNA samples collected from relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers are being analysed and stored in the national gene bank to support identification efforts.
