Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam (SPCV) and the Lao Supreme Court (LSC) have agreed to promote exchanges of delegations and share their experiences in managing trials and courts.
The agreement was reached at talks between SPCV Deputy Chief Justice Dang Quang Phuong and LSC President Khammy Sayavong in Hanoi on September 9.
Both host and guest informed each other of the development of their respective countries’ judicial sector, emphasising the necessity to further enhance cooperation between both sides.
Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has seen significant improvements since a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed on August 13, 2008, they said.
The SPCV will help its Lao counterpart to raise the professional capabilities of judges in Laos and supply information technology training and professional materials to Lao courts in the second phase of a project to increase the Lao Supreme Court’s capabilities in 2011 and 2012.
Sayavong used the occasion to thank the SPCV for helping it to train its staff and implement the project’s first phase.
Lao courts are willing to work with their Vietnamese counterparts in joint activities, confirmed Sayavong.
During their week-long visit to Vietnam, which will end on September 13, the Lao delegation is scheduled to pay courtesy visits to State President Nguyen Minh Triet, the head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the Minister of Justice as well as attending the SPCV’s 65 th founding anniversary./.
