Vietnam-Laos legislative ties grow fruitfully: NA leader

The comprehensive cooperation between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos has developed fruitfully in the recent past, said Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnamese NA Tong Thi Phong.

Hanoi (VNA) – Thecomprehensive cooperation between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos hasdeveloped fruitfully in the recent past, said Vice Chairwoman of the VietnameseNA Tong Thi Phong.

During her talks with her Lao counterpartSomphanh Phengkhammy in Hanoi on April 25, Phong said leaders of the twoparliaments have held regular meetings and co-chaired activities to shareexperience in law-making and supervision.

The sides have also coordinatedwell in multilateral diplomatic affairs, particularly at inter-parliamentaryforums in the world and in the region such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Asia-PacificParliamentary Forum (APPF), she said.

Based on the results of thecooperation and positive outcomes of General Secretary of the Communist Partyof Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Laos, the two sidesagreed to study and deploy new collaboration activities, focusing on theexchange of experience in legislation to serve international integration andjoint supervision of the implementation of signed cooperation pacts between thetwo nations.  

Phong affirmed that the VietnameseNA is willing to coordinate closely with its Lao counterpart in sharing informationand experience in legislation as well as in implementing their roles insupervising and deciding important issues of each country.

For his part, SomphanhPhengkhammy said the ongoing vist aims to fortify relations between theVietnamese and Lao Parties, States, and specially the two legislatures.

He said the Lao NA is preparingfor the parliamentary election in 2021 and hoped the Vietnamese legislaturewill share its experience to help its Lao counterpart improve its operationeffectiveness.

The Lao official also asked forthe Vietnamese NA’s experience regarding the organisation of elections and operationof people’s councils at all levels.-VNA

Vietnam, China sign 32 cooperation documents

The documents include a cooperation plan between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the 2026–2030 period; a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Organisation Commission of the CPV Central Committee and its Chinese counterpart; and a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Parliamentary leaders hail development of Vietnam – Russia ties

The top legislator of Vietnam proposed that both sides deepen political and diplomatic connections, as well as parliamentary cooperation, through delegation exchanges, high-level meetings through various channels, and the successful organisation of a visit to Vietnam by the Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council and a trip to Russia by the NA Chairman to co-chair the 5th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in 2026.
