Vietnam, Laos to accelerate border demarcation

Vietnam and Laos have agreed on measures to accelerate the implementation of the border marker planting project in 2010.

The agreement was reached at the 19 th annual meeting of theVietnam-Laos border delegation, which was held in southern Binh Thuanprovince of Vietnam from Feb. 28-Mar.1.

The Vietnamese delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Ho XuanSon and the Lao delegation, was led by Deputy Foreign Minister BounkeutSansomsak.

The two sides reviewed the efforts made by ministries, localities andrelevant agencies of the two countries in implementing the Vietnam-LaosAgreement on National Border Regulations, thus helping maintainstability, social order and security, as well as facilitatingsocio-economic development in their border areas.

They worked out cooperation plans regarding border works in the comingtime, including the issue of unplanned migration, unregisteredinter-racial marriages, and the construction of border gates and tradecentres and markets along the common border of the two countries./.
