State President Nguyen Minh Triet has appointed 21 new ambassadors and consul generals to a number of countries.
Addressing the Jan. 14 ceremony to hand over his decision to ambassadors, President Triet urged the newly-appointed officials to play an active role and help to strengthen the friendship, solidarity and understanding between Vietnam and the countries they will work in.
The ambassadors should learn more about late President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts in diplomacy, said the State leader, while asking the diplomats to be flexible in their jobs.
In some cases, the ambassadors should take the initiative and hold talks for the country’s own interests, especially on the issues of democracy, human rights and religion in which Vietnam has always proved its justice stance, said Triet.
On other issues, the State President told the new ambassadors to make more effort to promote economic and trade ties, gather market information, establish new business ties and learn about economic development from their experiences overseas./.
