With high-quality farm produce, Vietnam will have many opportunities to expand its market amid the country’s greater international integration, General Director of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development Dang Kim Son has said.
The Vietnam Economic Times on December 9 quoted Son as saying that in the long-term, high-quality produce always sells well at healthy prices. In the next few decades, there are good prospects for agricultural production in both the domestic and global markets.
Philippe Bacac, Managing Director of Germany-invested wholesale chain operator Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam, was also quoted as saying that the country owns favourable conditions for high value farm produce such as aquatic products, fruit and vegetables.
He urged Vietnam to invest more in modernising its agriculture, improving farm produce quality and the competitiveness of elements in the supply chain, and forming a sustainable connection between production and retail.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agro-forestry-fishery export turnover was estimated to be 2.42 billion USD in November, bringing the total figure in the 11-month period to 25.25 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent.-VNA
