– The State-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has actively promoted the dissemination of policies and programmes of Ho Chi Minh City to local residents over the past time, helping the city maintain its position as the southern economic hub of the country in all aspects.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan made the commendation while visiting officials and reporters of the VNA’s southern representative office on June 19 on the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925).

The agency is a channel for local authorities to get them updated of the multi-dimensional information about the local lives, he said.

VNA is one of the most active organisations to disseminate the National Assembly’s Resolution 54 on piloting specific mechanisms and policies of HCM City to help people understand its significance and spirit, he added.

He affirmed that the city is willing to share information and coordinate with press agencies, including VNA, to implement effectively the assigned tasks.

The city aims to launch a municipal press centre as soon as possible, he said, adding that this will serve as a place of information exchanges and provision among press agencies.

Vietnam News Agency boasts a network of 63 bureaus in all the cities and provinces nationwide and 30 overseas bureaus across five continents. 

With more than 1,000 reporters and editors among its 2,400-strong staff, products, the agency is now the largest producer of media products in the country. It produces more than 60 products including bulletins, photographs, television programmes, dailies, weeklies, monthlies, magazines, pictorials, books, TV programmes, e-newspapers and information programmes on mobile platforms. 

The agency also delivers news in the largest number of languages. In addition to official Vietnamese-language news items provided to domestic and foreign media outlets, articles are published in English, Chinese, French and Spanish, not to mention print and e-newspapers in four other languages, Lao, Korean, Japanese and Russian. -VNA
