The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) signed a cooperation agreement on June 24, in a move to create a strategic partnership for mutual development.

Under the terms of the agreement, VNPT will supply high-quality, reasonably priced telecom services and information technology to upgrade VNA’s technical infrastructure.

VNPT will also help VNA deliver news briefs to mobile phone users through VNPT’s subsidiary companies, Mobifone and VinaPhone.

In return, VNA will promote and advertise VNPT’s brand name and services through its media channels.

The two sides also pledged to work together to launch new services via the telecom networks and the internet, and to build a national news database.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VNA General Director Tran Mai Huong emphasised the need for VNA-VNPT cooperation, saying it is a natural link between the press and modern electronic media.

With this deal, the two sides will support each other for their mutual development and fulfil all the tasks assigned by the Party and the State, he added.

The Chairman of VNPT’s Board of Directors, Pham Long Tran, said the combination of an official and abundant information source such as VNA and VNPT’s state-of-the-art, telecom-IT facilities and diverse services, will better serve the country’s construction and development process and create convenient new services for the people./.
