The High Command of the Vietnam Navy on May 7 held a ceremony in central Khanh Hoa province to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), which dates back to May 7, 1955.
Addressing the ceremony held on Song Tu Tay island of Truong Sa island district, Rear Admiral Dinh Gia That, Political Commissar of the VPN, stressed that the event is of significance for naval officers and soldiers as it recounts the glorious traditions of their predecessors who built and developed the force over 50 years.
He said that firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands as well as continental shelves is the honourable responsibility of the whole nation, of which, the Vietnam People’s Navy plays a crucial role.
On the pathway of development, the VPN has been honoured for its remarkable records and victories, with a number of rewards, including the title of Hero of the people’s armed forces, Golden Star Order, Ho Chi Minh Order, among others.
On this occasion, a stronger call was made to improve staff awareness of their duties so that they will exert more efforts to modernise the people’s navy to protect national sovereignty over sea and islands, therefore contributing to maintaining peace, stability and friendship with neighbouring countries.-VNA
