Vietnam plans activities in response to World Oceans Day

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has sent an dispatch on the hosting of activities under the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and responding to the World Oceans Day (June 8) to ministries, sectors, organisations and authorities of localities nationwide.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has sent an dispatch onthe hosting of activities under the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and respondingto the World Oceans Day (June 8) to ministries, sectors, organisations andauthorities of localities nationwide.

From June 1 to 15, these activities are set to be held in an efficient and effective manner, ensuring COVID-19-prevention and control measures.

In the dispatch, the ministry has ordered units involved tofocus on comprehensive communications work regarding issues relating to sea and islands,including information on Vietnam’s legitimate rights and interests at sea inaccordance with international law; the Party’s viewpoints and guidelines aswell as the State’s policies and laws on sea and islands; environmental protection,biodiversity development and climate change response; and international cooperation in thefield.

Localities have been asked to intensify their control of thecollection, transport and treatment of waste, particularly plastic waste, incoastal areas and islands, with the building of public facilities forenvironmental protection encouraged.

This year, the World Oceans Day themed "The Ocean: Lifeand Livelihoods" will shed light on the wonder of the ocean and how it is our lifesource, supporting humanity and every other organism on Earth.

Following the idea, a theme of "ocean protection and sustainabledevelopment of marine livelihoods in Vietnam" has been selected for the VietnamSea and Islands Week. There are also among the goals set to concretise thecontents of the nation’s resolution on the strategy for sustainable developmentof Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045./.

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.

The project is being implemented in the former Hoa Binh city, now Hoa Binh ward. It has a total investment of 688.7 billion VND (26.38 million USD), including 507.3 billion VND in ODA and 181.4 billion VND in counterpart funding.
