Vietnam, Poland beef up defence cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of NationalDefence Sen. Lt. Gen. Pham Hoai Nam hosted a reception for Polish Ambassador toVietnam Wojciech Gerwel on January 17.

At the Hanoi event, Nam affirmed thatVietnam always bears in mind precious support from Polandduring the country’s struggle for dependence in the past as well as nationalconstruction and defence at present.

Hailing timely support from the Polish government forVietnam’s COVID-19 fight, the official underlined that theassistance is a proof of sentiments of the two Governments and peoples.

For his part, Ambassador Gerwel said Poland wishes to closely cooperate with Vietnam in variousfields, including national defence and security.

The two sides noted with satisfaction that the bilateral nationaldefence cooperation has been bolstered over the recent past, especially afterthe signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperationin 2010, primarily in exchange of delegations, human resource development anddefence industry.

They agreed to intensify defence cooperation in the comingtime in a flexible manner and in tandem with the COVID-19 situation, with afocus on maintaining the exchange of delegations, particularly of high-ranking ones.

The sides will step up discussion towards the prompt approvalof the Vietnam-Poland defence cooperation plan for this year./.

Regarding future cooperation orientations, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the two parties enhance mutual understanding and exchanges, deepen relations in a substantive manner, and promote their roles in strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
