A Vietnam-Poland economic forum was held in Hanoi on June 11 to further boost the economic-trade relations between the two nations.
Co-organsied by the Embassy of Poland in Hanoi and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the event took place during a Vietnam visit which stretches from June 10-14 by Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Katarzyna Kacpercryk.
Addressing the forum, Katarzyna accompanied by representatives of 50 businesses, said that Polish firms are in Vietnam to not only expand trade ties with their local partners but also to seek opportunities to invest in this market of 90 million people.
Polish companies boast strengths in farm produce and food processing and operate effectively in other fields, such as mining and mining equipment, infrastructure development and pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, she said, adding they are also proud of advanced technology, product quality and competitive prices.
She affirmed that Vietnam is an investment destination Polish businesses are targeting.
According to Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa, despite strong developments in recent years, the multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Poland, especially in economics, is still falling short of the two nations’ potential.
In the coming time, the two sides should intensify their economic-trade relations by opening up new cooperation opportunities, she said.
As Vietnam is focusing on shifting its workforce from agriculture to processing industry, a move Poland has already completed successfully, Thoa said she hopes that the European country will invest in the processing of agricultural products and food.
The 60,000-strong Vietnamese community in Poland serves as a bridge for developing economic and trade ties between the two countries, she added.
At the forum, the two sides exchanged cooperation opportunities in such areas as finance, insurance, information technology, pharmaceuticals, food, confectionary and energy, among others.-VNA
