Hanoi (VNA) – The Institute of Construction Economics (ICE) under the Ministry of Construction (MoC) and Autodesk, a business that designs technologies for architects and building contractors, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation to promote the digital transformation and the application of building information modeling (BIM) in the construction sector in Vietnam.

Under the document, the ICE and the Autodesk agreed to expand cooperation from what has been carried out under the first MoU signed in 2017, with a view to accelerating the BIM application according to the roadmap approved by the Prime Minister in March 2023.

Autodesk will serve as an advisor and assist the MoC with BIM promotion and application, as well as digital transformation in the local construction sector over three years. It will carry out activities for improving the awareness of BIM and measuring the BIM application effectiveness, update training programmes, and grant certain certificates.

Meanwhile, the ICE will help Autodesk in the research and development of BIM solutions suitable for Vietnam.

ICE Director Le Van Cu said Autodesk has provided considerable assistance for the MoC. He said that it helped carry out communications to raise the awareness of BIM, shared international experience, provided guidance, and supplied equipment and software for BIM application.

He expressed his hope that the Autodesk will continue its help so that the application of BIM in Vietnam will become more effective.

The MoU is also expected to boost the access to such advanced technologies as BIM Generative Design and Digital Twins so as to optimise resources, obtain economic efficiency and high productivity, and create sustainable effects.

Via their partnership, the two sides also hope BIM and other new technologies based on digital platforms will help create a vibrant construction sector and inspire innovation.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of AEC Strategy & Marketing at the Autodesk, described the MoU as an important step to promote BIM in the construction sector.

He said BIM is an important technology helping contractors, consultants, and investors to maximise efficiency, minimise costs, and increase construction quality.

With over 40 years of experience in designing and creating technologies for architects and building contractors, the Autodesk hopes to become a trustworthy partner of the Government, managerial agencies, and businesses of Vietnam to help improve the BIM application capacity and foster the development of the local construction sector, Mangon added.

During their cooperation, the two sides will jointly monitor and assess the suitability of the programmes and the effectiveness of completed projects. They will also take part in regional and international events to stay updated with the latest trends and connect with their peers to contribute to the development of the construction sector./.
