Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held phone talks with his Cuban counterpart Manuel Marrero Cruz on July 1 to discuss measures to continue enhancing the special traditional friendship and comprehensive and trustworthy cooperation between the two Parties, governments and people.

He affirmed that Vietnam treasures and is determined to further deepen the bilateral friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in the near future.

Conveying thanks to the Cuban Government for sending medical experts and medicine to help Vietnam cope with the pandemic, PM Chinh shared the difficulties facing Cuba and affirmed that Vietnam is always ready to cooperate with Cuba within its capacity in ensuring food security for the country. He congratulated Cuba on its positive results in research and development of COVID-19 candidate vaccines.

PM Marrero Cruz, for his part, affirmed that the Cuban Government and people always cherish the solidarity, precious support and sharing of practical experience Vietnam has given to Cuba.

He said Cuba wants to expand collaboration with Vietnam in trade, investment, agriculture, health care, pharmaceuticals, including COVID-19 vaccine provision and production technology transfer.

Both leaders agreed to increase consultations and implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms in flexible forms in the context of the pandemic.

They pledged to direct ministries and agencies concerned to share expertise and reach an agreement on the provision of  COVID-19 vaccine and transfer of vaccine production technology from Cuba to Vietnam.

The two PMs vowed to coordinate closely and offer mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums regarding issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.

Despite geographical distance, Vietnam always stands side by side with and supports Cuba in any circumstance, PM Chinh said.

He also affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on strongly supporting the United Nations General Assembly’s resolutions asking for an end to embargo against Cuba./.
