Algiers (VNA) – Vietnam returns to the International Fair of Algiers (FIA) in Algeria this year, showcasing a variety of products in agriculture, handicraft, clothing, telecommunication and fine arts that are seeking inroads into the local market.
The 51st FIA, which will run through May 13, hosts five Vietnamese exhibitors including the Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro), military-run telecom group Viettel, Anh Tuyet clothing company, handicraft retailer Hien Sarl and Vietnamese painter Nguyen Minh Son.
Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia attended the event’s opening ceremony on May 8 and visited the Vietnam booths where he had a talk with Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quoc Tru.
Rice, pepper, cashew nuts and coffee are among Vietnamese signature agricultural products on display at the exhibition of Hapro.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Minh Son exhibits 15 of his oil paintings depicting the charm of Hanoi and northern rural villages. His exhibition pulled in a large crowd of audience on the opening day, including the Algerian PM, local senior officials and foreign diplomats in Algiers.
On May 13 – 14, the Embassy of Vietnam and the Algerian Ministry of Culture will hold an exhibition of painter Nguyen Minh Son’s works at Palace of Culture Moufdi Zakaria in Algiers, as part of the Vietnam – Algeria cultural exchange programme between 2016 and 2018.
According to Ambassador Tru, the FIA is a good opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to promote their signature products among consumers in Algeria and other African countries. It is expected to support the enhancement of the two countries’ trade and cooperation in the coming time.
This year, the International Fair of Algiers attracted more than 700 Algerian and foreign businesses, including those from China who are honorable guests of this event. On display are products in agriculture and food processing, energy, chemistry and petro-chemistry, electricity and electronics, mechanics and metallurgy, construction and services.
Last year, four Vietnamese enterprises, among some 500 foreign exhibitors from 34 countries, came to the fair. They mostly brought farm produce, souvenir and clothing products.-VNA
