Bac Lieu (VNA) –
The Vietnam Sea andIsland Week 2019 is scheduled to take place in the Mekong Delta province of BacLieu.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and EnvironmentTran Quy Kien had a working session with local authorities on May 10 to discussabout the event as well as the Action Month for the Environment and WorldEnvironment Day 2019.

Chairman of the provincial People’s CommitteeDuong Thanh Trung said the organisation of the aforesaid events will contributeto promoting the dissemination of the Party and State’s policies and laws onenvironmental protection and sea and island defence.

The preparation for the events has been beingcarried out on progress, he said, adding that the province will map out morespecific plans to ensure their success.

At the working session, the Ministry of NaturalResources and Environment approved a draft plan for organising the events,which are due to take place in late May and early June 2019.

Various activities will be held such as alaunching ceremony in response to World Oceans Day and Environment Day, aworkshop on investment for Vietnam sea brand, and a photo exhibition onenvironmental protection and economic development in the Mekong Delta.

Other events include an international forum onthe appropriate use of sea and island resources, a ceremony to kick off theconstruction of a waste treatment plant, a workshop on promoting the role ofwar veterans in raising public awareness of environmental protection.

Bac Lieu province will also organise mangrove afforestationto prevent coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion, mitigate the impacts ofclimate change, and protect the environment.

Community-based environment activities such asdesigning, building and decorating playgrounds for children in new resettlementareas arranged for households living along protective forests and canals willbe held as well as a youth programme to prevent plastic waste.-VNA
