
Washington (VNA) – A delegation from the Supreme People’s Court led by ChiefJudge Nguyen Hoa Binh visited the US from August 28 to September 6 to seekstronger judicial cooperation between the two countries.
Ata working session at the US Federal Judicial Centre as part of the visit, theVietnamese side asked for support from US partners in general and the centre inparticular for Vietnam in completing its legal system, especially in procedurallaw, the development of case law, and settlement of intellectual propertydisputes.
Thetwo sides agreed on a number of cooperation contents in various areas,including the organization and operation of judicial agencies, approaches to judicialadministrative activities, the management of data, statistics and analysis aswell as personnel training.
Thetwo sides will also foster ties in using research of each other to serve courtoperation, as well as in major legal and procedural areas and otherprofessional issues in judicial sector.
Torealize the agreements, the two sides will increase visits to each other, holdjoint conference, and work together in researching and compiling academicdocuments.
Ata meeting with US Chief Justice John G. Roberts, the delegation thanked the USDepartment of State and US courts for their support and experience sharing,helping enhancing the efficiency of Vietnam’s court activities.
Duringtheir stay, the delegation also visited the Supreme Courts of Texas and Georgiastates, the Travis county Family Drug Treatment Court, Texas Court Criminal of Appeals, andAtlanta Judicial Complex, to learn from the US side’s experience in operatingthe litigation system, the models of family court and drug court, and experiencein judicial training.
They also held meetings with the US Department of State, the Family JudicialCentre, and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.-VNA
