Buenos Aires (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Ngo Minh Nguyet has held meetings with Argentine congresswoman Lorena Villaverde and congressman Santiago Cafiero to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two legislatures.

Meeting Villaverde, a congresswoman of Rio Negro province on September 24, Nguyet highly valued the cooperation between the Argentine National Congress and Vietnam’s National Assembly over the years through delegation exchanges, especially the recent visit to Argentina by a delegation from the Vietnamese NA Economic Committee and the People’s Council of Hanoi.

Villaverde introduced Rio Negro province’s potential in tourism, natural resources, oil and gas, fruit farming, livestock, and fishing, and expressed her hope to promote collaboration with Vietnam in general and Vietnamese localities in particular.

At a meeting with Santiago Cafiero, a congressman of Buenos Aires province and former Foreign Minister of Argentina, Nguyet expressed her hope to increase delegation exchanges between the two parliaments and boost trade with Buenos Aires.

Cafiero highlighted the potential of Buenos Aires, a locality with the largest population in Argentina with 15.6 million people out of the total 46.23 million people of the South American country, as well as the province’s agricultural strengths in maize, soybean, and wheat cultivation and large livestock farming, especially cattle.

At a working session on September 19 with Amadeo Enrique Vallejos, Mayor of Reconquista city of Santa Fe province, the Vietnamese diplomat introduced the potential of Vietnam, the seventh largest trade partner of Argentina, and invited local firms to participate in the Vietnam-Argentina business forum slated for November.

Vallejos told Nguyet about advantages of Santa Fe and the city of Reconquista in technology for agricultural production, machineries, livestock farming, and sunflower and cotton cultivation.

At the meetings, Nguyet affirmed her readiness to support Argentine localities in expanding economic, trade, and investment ties with Vietnam, strengthening bilateral parliamentary cooperation and increasing delegation exchanges.

Two-way trade 2.54 billion USD in the first eight months of this year, down 2.75% year on year, including Vietnam’s exports of 380 million USD.

Vietnam is an important trade partner of Argentina after Brazil, China, the US, Chile, India, and Paraguay. It currently imports mainly soybean powder, soybean meal, and corn from Argentina for animal husbandry. Meanwhile, Vietnam exports telephones, computers, and electronic components to Argentina./.
