Vietnam, Thailand boost defence ties

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon discussed ways to step up defence ties between the two nations after a welcoming ceremony in Hanoi on January 14.

General Prawit Wongsuwon is leading a high-ranking defence delegation to visit Vietnam from January 13-15 at the invitation of General Thanh.

During their meeting , Minister Thanh said the Vietnam visit will contribute to consolidating friendship and mutual understanding and trust between the two armies and peoples.

For his part, Prawit Wongsuwon affirmed that his visit aims to further bolster friendship between the two nations and their armies in particular.

The host and guest reviewed recent results of bilateral defence cooperation, and discuss how to further promote defence ties in areas, including exchange of visits, personnel training and joint patrols at sea.

While in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon and his entourage are scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and tour several Vietnam People’s Army units.-VNA
