Vietnam will start compiling its own encyclopaedia this year as the work was recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The compilation of the 36-volume encyclopaedia is slated to be completed in 2023, according to Decision 1262/QD-TTg.
In the 2014-2019 period, the 36 volumes of the reference work will be compiled according to subjects while their entries and articles will be arranged alphabetically from 2020 to 2023.
The project aims to provide a comprehensive summary of information covering all branches of knowledge of Vietnam and the world.
The book is hoped to help improve the overall intellectual level, serving the nation’s industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.
The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is assigned to chair the compilation.-VNA
