Vietnam to host ASEAN energy ministers’ meeting

The 28th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM 28) and associated events hosted by Vietnam for the first time will take place in Da Lat city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong from July 19-23.

The 28th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM 28) and associated events hosted by Vietnam for the first time will take place in Da Lat city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong from July 19-23.

At a press briefing in Hanoi on July 9, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Huu Hao said that the AMEM 28, entitled “Energy savings and climate change,” will draw the participation of 600 delegates, including energy ministers from 10 ASEAN countries, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), China, India, New Zealand and Australia, officials from the US and Russia and representatives from businesses.

At the AMEM 28, the delegates will discuss, share experiences and transfer technologies in the search and development of alternative energy resources.

They will also discuss a roadmap to build a transnational gas pipeline in ASEAN and connect the regional electricity grids.

Other related meetings, namely the 28 th Senior Officials of Energy Meeting (SOME 28), SOME 28+3 (with Japan, the RoK and China) and SOME 28 + Russia and the US, the East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting; Cambodian, Lao and Vietnamese Energy Ministers’s Meeting and ministers-CEO Dialogues, will also take place.

An energy exhibition, an ASEAN energy forum and an awards ceremony to honouring businesses for their effective use of energy will take place on the sidelines of the AMEM 28./.
