Vietnam to promote ASEAN – UK cooperation: ambassador

London (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An hasaffirmed that Vietnam, as Chair of ASEAN in 2020, supports stronger collaborationbetween ASEAN and the UK across trade and investment, as well as cooperationfor peace, security and development.

In his remarks at the UK – ASEAN Business Council (UKABC) Business BreakfastForum on ASEAN 2020 held in London on January 14, Ambassador An said that theASEAN member states welcomes the UK’s goodwill and efforts in boostingcooperation with the ASEAN.

As the ASEAN Chair 2020, Vietnam will work closely with other ASEAN countries forthe bloc’s benefits and prosperity, he stressed.

Hailing the work and initiatives of previous ASEAN Chairs, such as smart citysystem of Singapore and sustainable development of Thailand, the diplomatinformed that Vietnam has set the theme “Cohesive and Responsive” for ASEANduring the year it serves as Chair of the bloc.

The ambassador noted that this year, Vietnam also beganto its tenure as a non-permanent member at the UN Security Council (UNSC);therefore, the country will work to promote ASEAN’s interests at the council,and will serve as a bridge between ASEAN and the UN so that the bloc can carryout its plan in accordance with the UN’s targets.

The forum drew the participation of representatives from the UK Foreign &Commonwealth Office, Department for International Trade, and prestigiousorganisations and businesses such as ACCA, Asia House, HSBC, Shell, VietnamAirlines, along with embassies of ASEAN member countries, among others.Delegates at the event also discussed ASEAN’s prospects as well as the UK’spriorities for engaging ASEAN in 2020 and later years./.

Vietnam treasures traditional friendship with Mauritania: FM

The two officials agreed to continue their long-standing coordination at multilateral forums, including the Francophonie, while reinforcing practical collaboration with regional organisations such as ASEAN and the AU, for the benefit of their people and for peace, stability and development in their respective regions and globally.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.

Vietnam seeks stronger ties with Greece’s Patras
