The Vietnam- US comprehensive partnership has flourished in all spheres over the past years, including security and national defence.
So far, Vietnam and the US have conducted more than 4,000 joint investigations, with 1,000 missing military remains being handed over to the US. The two sides are continuing to coordinate in searching for 200,000 Vietnamese martyrs and Vietnamese soldiers missing in the war. Vietnam and the US have been working together for a number of decades already to clear away unexploded ordnance (UXO) left over from the war, which has proven to be fruitful, especially in central Quang Tri province - the area in Vietnam most contaminated by UXO.
