The relationship between Vietnam and the United States in the past three decades has undergone remarkable transformations, as evidenced through the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In the field of technology, notable advancements include the US-based tech giant NVIDIA's plans to establish a research centre in Vietnam. American universities such as Arizona State are now working on advanced curriculum development to provide Vietnamese students with high-tech education.
Defense cooperation has also seen progress, with the U.S. handing over five training aircraft to Vietnam and committing 12.5 million USD to Vietnam's efforts to patrol and oversee its fisheries, natural resources at sea.
The two sides have also made strides in energy, healthcare, among others.
American companies are keen on investing in green energy in Vietnam, including offshore wind energy projects. Many new partnerships are also emerging in agriculture, such as a high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation project using US technology in Can Tho City, which is assisted by US Department of Agriculture and USAID.
Additionally, the two nations are to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic normalisation and 50 years since the end of the war in 2025. Over the years, Hanoi and Washington have moved from enemies to true friends and partners.
The message Ambassador Marc E. Knapper wishes to convey is one of hope, optimism, and a shared welcome for new milestones in the development of relations between the two countries./.
