Vietnam wants Czech to help boost ties with EU

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has expressed his wish that the Czech Republic will continue to cooperate with Vietnam in the areas of its strength and help the Southeast Asian nation enhance its ties with the European Union (EU).

Receiving Vice President of the Czech Senate Jiri Liska and his delegation in Hanoi on November 16, NA Chairman Trong spoke of the long-standing relations between Vietnam and the Czech Republic and noted that cooperative ties have seen new development in recent times, however, there is much potential to develop.

He thanked the Czech parliament, government and people for their assistance to Vietnam, especially in creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese community to study and work in their country.

For his part, Jiri Liska praised the role the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic in developing cooperation between the two countries.

The Czech senator stated that the Czech Republic views the development of relations with Vietnam as being of great importance and expressed his hope that cooperation in economy, as well as in education and training, would be further enhanced.

He said the Czech businesses, who are accompanying him, have many projects suitable for Vietnam .

Trong took this occasion to invite the leaders from the Czech Senate and House of Representatives to visit Vietnam .

The same day, Jiri Liska had working sessions with the heads of the NA Committee for Science, Technology and the Environment and the Committee for Social Affairs. They discussed the possibility of cooperation in waste treatment, water supply safety, forest coverage and energy conservation.

During his stay in Vietnam from November 15-23, Jiri Liska is scheduled to work with leaders of Ministries of Industry and Trade, Home Affairs, and Natural Resources and Environment. He and his delegation will visit the central provinces of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Binh as well as Ho Chi Minh City./.
