Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam wants to promote itsstrategic partnership, cooperate in different areas, supplement each other and coordinatewith Singapore at multilateral institutions, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen PhuTrong said on May 20.

At a reception for Speaker of the SingaporeanParliament Tan Chuan-Jin in Hanoi, the Party leader highlighted the achievements incooperation between the two countries, and thanked Singapore for its support toVietnam in socio-economic development.

General Secretary Trong reiterated Vietnam’s foreign policy of being afriend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the internationalcommunity.

The Party chief agreed on the significance of expanding thebilateral relations between the people of the two nations, and suggested Singapore further support the Vietnamesecommunity in the city-state.

Speaking highly of the outcomes of the talks between theSpeaker and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, the Party leader saidthe two legislatures should continue to perfect laws and mechanisms, and takespecific measures to boost their cooperation.

The General Secretary also noted his belief that the SingaporeanSpeaker’s visit will be a milestone in the bilateral relations as the twocountries are looking towards the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and 10 years of the establishment of the strategic partnershipin 2023.

For his part, Tan congratulated Vietnam on hostingthe 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) amid difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,saying Vietnam has offered a warm welcome to sports delegations, their familiesand international guests to the biggest regional sports event.

He said the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership isthriving, and that Singapore attaches importance to developing the relations,promoting the achievements, and expanding cooperation in such areas as digital technology,climate change response and sustainable development.

People-to-people exchange would be an importantfoundation for the relationship, he suggested.

The same day, Tan and his entourage visited VanMieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi./.

Jordanian King's visit hopeful of opening up new cooperation phase
