Vietnam welcomes Cuba and the US’s opening of their respective embassies in one another’s country, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh said at a regular press conference on July 23.

He said Vietnam considers the opening of the embassies a positive andconcrete step towards completely normalising the relationship betweenCuba and the US for the legitimate interests of the countries’ peoples.

The move also greatly contributes to sustaining peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world atlarge, he added.

Regarding the unanimous adoption ofthe United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2231 endorsing theJoint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear programme, Binhstressed that Vietnam applauds the ratification of the resolution onJuly 20 and advocates the effective implementation of the document whichwill help ensure regional and global peace, stability, cooperation anddevelopment.

When asked about reports that Singaporedid not permit a number of Vietnamese tourists to enter, the spokesmanquoted the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore as saying on July 22 thatSingapore has yet to make any official announcements on the issue toVietnam.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairsordered its agencies and the embassy to liaise with local authorisedbodies to verify related information and work out appropriate settlementmeasures in order to ensure the legitimate rights and interests ofVietnamese citizens on the basis of bilateral and ASEAN agreements, henoted.-VNA

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung described the visits as particularly important and historic, taking place at a meaningful moment as Vietnam and India mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and just one month after the top leader of Vietnam assumed his new position.
