Nguyen Thi Anh Vien had a successful day when she brought home two gold medals and broke two regional records, set by herself at the previous Games, in the women’s 800m freestyle (8’34”85) and the 400m individual medley event (4’42”88).

Her teammate Hoang Quy Phuoc also broke a Games record in the men’s 200m freestyle event when finishing first at a time of 1’48”96.

Fencers maintained their excellent performances, wining two additional gold medals in the men’s team epee and sabre events, raising the total gold-medal number of the Vietnam fencing team to six.

Meanwhile, female race walker Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc outpaced her rivals to finish first in the women’s 20km walk event with 1h45’19.

The remaining three gold medals went to the men’s gymnastics team, judo artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy in the women’s 52kg category and petanque player Nguyen Thi Thi in the women’s shooting event.

As of 11pm of June 6, Vietnam ranked second in the medal tally with 13 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze medals, following the host Singapore with 17 golds.-VNA
