Vietnam wishes to further defence ties with EU

Hanoi(VNA) – Deputy Minister of Defence, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh has affirmedthat Vietnam considers the European Union (EU) as an important partner andwishes to further develop bilateral defence ties.

During a receptionin Hanoi on June 28 for Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of the EU Delegation toVietnam, Vinh said the two sides boast potential cooperation areas such asincreasing the exchange of high-level visits towards building a defence policy dialoguemechanism, sharing experience in search and rescue activities, post-warrecovery and training.

Angelet updatedhis host on the EU’s developments in various areas, including security-defence.

He said Vietnamand the EU are well-positioned to develop defence ties, suggesting theystrengthen cooperation between research agencies and in UN peacekeeping missionswhile considering a plan to establish a defence policy dialogue mechanismbetween the two sides.-VNA
