Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Office of Economics and Culture in Chinese Taipei is making its utmost efforts to ensure safety for four Vietnamese citizens who have been trapped in a collapsed building after an earthquake hit Taiwan (China) on February 6.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake hit Kaohsiung city in the south of Taiwan at a depth of 15 km at 3:57 a.m (local time) on February 6. The quake had a magnitude of 6.7.

According to local media, the earthquake has left at least 11 dead and 462 others injured.

Earthquakes frequently jolt Taiwan. Most of them are minor, but a 7.3-magnitude quake, the strongest to hit Taiwan in about 100 years, shook the island on September 21, 1999, leaving more than 2,000 people dead.-VNA
